Signature Point “Turbo Tune-Up”

If you haven’t had one in the last six months or so, we recommend our Signature 21 Point “Turbo Tune-Up”
to increase security & speed up your computer.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Clean & Organize

Delete Temporary Windows Files & Folders
Windows creates “temp files” as programs or updates are installed. After installation, these files are unnecessary & large amounts can slow your PC.

Remove Unwanted Programs
Removing unused programs from your PC can free storage space on your hard drive,
but more importantly can allow Windows to operate faster and with more reliability.

Delete Cookies & Cache (Temporary Internet Files)
Cookies are a type of text file that websites will store on your computer when you browse their site. A cookie serves the purpose of helping a website to make recommendations to you based on past visits. This saves you time by remembering your site preferences or auto filling information that you’ve already entered once before.

They are harmless files in the sense that they cannot install viruses and are unable to execute malicious code. That said, because cookies serve the purpose of saving your preferences and login settings, they often contain some of your personal information.

Through various exploits, this information could ostensibly be obtained by others without your consent. This violation of your privacy is usually used for marketing or advertising purposes.

Regularly deleting cookies is something that we recommend, as it can keep your web browser trouble-free and retain your privacy. Please do be aware however, that removing cookies will also remove saved passwords and other personalized settings you may be accustomed to from your favorite websites. Please let your technician know before your tune-up if you prefer to keep your cookies for any particular site(s).

Your internet cache are very similar to cookies in that these are also files placed onto your computer by websites you visit.

The purpose of cache files is to allow webpages to load much faster by storing webpage content on your PC. Instead of having to wait to download the entire webpage, your web browser will download only new content, the content that has changed since the last time you’ve visited that page.

While this can be very convenient with slower internet connections like dial-up or DSL, in this day and age most people are using broadband internet. We recommend the regular removal of cache files as they can also reveal your web activity to others – and in large quantities can slow processing and waste hard drive storage space.

Free Disc Space
Running out of storage space on your hard drive can cause significant problems with the operation of your computer. You may begin to see error messages, blue screen errors, program crashes, or pop-up messages that want you to run the disc cleanup utility to free hard drive space.

Sure, hard drives today are offering more storage capacity than ever before, but our customers always seem to find a way to fill them. Additionally, there is a growing market for computers with solid-state (SSD) hard drives. SSD drives offer faster speeds at the expense of much lower storage space, leaving many users with fast computers but very little room to store files.

By removing any unnecessary files from your PC – program installers, old updates, temp files, et al. we can provide Windows with the breathing room it needs to function properly. As a general rule for optimal performance, no less than 15% of your total drive storage should remain as free space.

Customize User Preferences for Software & Settings
Make navigation easier & optimize settings for your personal tastes.

Bloatware, Trialware & Crapware Removal
Bloatware, Trialware & Crapware are names for any of the various unwanted software that comes preinstalled on new computers.

Even though you’ve spent hundreds of dollars on your brand new computer, computer manufacturers increase profits by selling ad space on your new computer to third party software companies. These companies are given permission to install their software, and add shortcuts all over your new pc.

Skype is a great example of a program that is frequently pre-installed on new computers. Skype is a wonderful program, and consumers that utilize Skype services are immediately able to sign in. But what about all the consumers that don’t use Skype services?

Though they will never use it, Skype now opens on startup every time Windows loads and numerous shortcuts have been added to the start menu, taskbar and desktop.

Skype’s auto-load feature causes Windows to load more slowly, and once loaded the program will steal away CPU and RAM resources that would otherwise be free for other computing endeavors.

Sounds bad, right? Keep in mind that this is just one of the many programs that will likely be installed on your new pc.

Other commonly installed bloatware programs include: McAfee, Nero, Norton, Picasa, Hulu Plus, Kindle, Netflix, Cyberlink, MyWinLocker, and any link that says “Free Trial”. While these programs may be great if you use them, if you do not, they are just more bloatware hogging your system resources.

Other signs of bloatware include:

Links on your desktop & start menu for programs you haven’t personally installed such as: Ebay, Nero, Skype, Norton, McAfee, Napster, Rhapsody, Picasa, EZ Backup, et al.

Unwanted favorites in your web browser such as: Ebay, RealPlayer, AOL, Amazon, Jango Music Player, Yahoo, et al.

Unnecessary toolbars on your web browser, including Ask.com, Yahoo, EBay, Norton, Skype, et al.

Organize Start Menu, Desktop, Taskbar & System Tray
It is well known that organizing your work space can have a drastic change on your productivity. This goes for your computer as well as your desk.

Let us clean and organize your computer’s desktop, start menu and taskbar so that you can be more efficient.

First, we’ll work with your to clear any unnecessary shortcuts from your desktop, start menu and taskbar. Next, we’ll make it easier to access your favorite folders, files, apps & programs from the start menu and taskbar.

Finally, we’ll help you choose an awesome photo for your desktop background, or create a desktop slideshow of your favorite photos.

Optimize & Accelerate

Optimize Internet for Faster, More Reliable Browsing
We’ll review your browser to make sure your internet browsing is not being slowed down by unnecessary bloatware like toolbars, extensions and plug-ins. This allows for faster, safer & more reliable internet browsing.

If you haven’t already, we also recommend making the switch to Chrome or Firefox browsers for their speed and ad-block capabilities. For Internet Explorer users, we can help you port your browser settings and favorites if you decide to make the switch.

Attempt to Speed-Up Boot Time
There are very few programs that need to be running at all times, and programs and services that you never use might be loading every time you start your computer. By removing unnecessary startup items, we can often drastically reduce the time it takes to load Windows.

Optimize File Explorer & Quick Launch
Increase overall productivity & organization by adding personalized shortcuts.

Patch & Update

Back Up System Registry
The registry is a database that contains settings for Windows, programs, user profiles, document handling, hardware and ports. If the registry becomes infected or corrupted, your computer will
no longer be able to function properly.

Before we begin our work, we will back up your registry so that if anything should happen, the backup can be used to restore your original settings.

Update Device Drivers
Drivers are the software that your computer uses to talk to its hardware. Without drivers, all the things that make your computer a computer (monitor, keyboard, mouse, webcam, speakers, printer, etc.) would cease to function properly. Hardware manufacturers frequently update their drivers to fix bugs or patch exploits that have been discovered.

To ensure that your computer continues to run smoothly, and to get the newest features for your devices it is important to install all the latest driver updates for your computer.

Critical Security Updates For Windows, Software & Apps
Microsoft Windows, Web Browsers, Microsoft Office, Skype, Adobe Products and other software often release important updates that resolve security issues. We’ll make sure you are using the most recent version of these products to ensure your computer does not fall victim to security flaws in any software or OS.

Assess & Secure

Data Backup & Backup Integrity Test
Unless you are storing a particularly large amount of data, we’ll make sure you have a complete backup. We’ll also create, implement & test a personalized backup solution for you to ensure regular, scheduled data backups.

Hardware Integrity Tests (Hard Drive, RAM, CPU, etc.)
Early detection of failing hardware can help prevent data loss, and regular PC maintenance can prevent unexpected downtime due to computer crashes. We’ll run diagnostic scans on your computer’s hardware components to ensure that they are running properly and unlikely to fail in the near future.

This includes hardware integrity scans of your computer’s:
Hard Drive (HDD), Memory (RAM), Processor (CPU), Video Card (GPU) & Motherboard

Rootkit & Keylogger Scan, Detection & Removal
Rootkits are a seriously bad type of malware designed to avoid detection from your antivirus software & live undetected on your computer.

Once installed, cyber-criminals can: steal your information (passwords, credit cards, etc.) or identity, install un-detectable viruses & malware, copy (or delete) your personal pictures, documents & files, or even remotely control your web camera. Scary stuff, but we’ll make sure you’re secured.

Virus Scans, Detection & Removal
The internet is filled with viruses, worms & other nightmares that invite themselves onto your computer. Luckily, our friendly & knowledgeable technicians are experts in advanced virus
removal on all brands of computers.

Malware/Adware/Spyware Scan, Detection & Removal
Computer security means more than good antivirus software. An antivirus alone cannot defend against all threats. Non-virus threats, called “malware” include Adware & Spyware. These types of threats are often overlooked by anti-virus protection, but are equally as dangerous.

Adware interferes with your computer’s functionality by forcibly displaying ads and pop-ups, or changing your default internet homepage or search provider. Spyware illegally collects & sends personal information about you, your accounts, and your browsing habits to… well to someone, somewhere. Who knows?

Our malware scans will identify & remove any of these malware threats.

Router Security Assessment & Hardening
Routers are the boxes that provide Internet to your home or office. They have many features, but some of these features are inherently insecure. We’ll make sure your router is technologically up-to-date, security updates & patches have been installed & tweak its’ settings for optimal Internet performance.

In addition, it is important to change some of the default router settings to increase your online security. This includes changing the router’s standard admin password to a unique one, and disabling WPS, UPnP & Remote Administration.

WiFi Security Assessment & Hardening
WiFi should be encrypted with WPA2 or WPA3. If it is still using WEP there are many vulnerabilities leaving you open to hackers. Additionally, the network name (or SSID) should be a personalized name (not just FIOS-HOME, or LINKSYS 2.4, for example) and a strong alpha-numeric password should be used to secure the network.

Computer Security Assessment & Windows 10 Hardening
We’ll review your computer to ensure that it is well-protected against online threats. First, we’ll ensure your antivirus of choice has a valid license, the virus definitions are up to date, and the firewall is enabled. We’ll also ensure automatic Windows login & remote access are disabled & auto-updates are enabled.
