About Parsippany-Troy Hills:

Parsippany-Troy Hills (or just Parsippany) is the most populated township in Morris County, NJ with good reason. Parsippany has repeatedly ranked in the top 20 “Best Places To Live In The United States” by Money magazine. With 29 parks, 2 golf courses, a hockey rink, a 12 theater movie complex, and a diverse offering of fantastic restaurants, spas & shops there’s plenty to do right in town, but Parsippany is also justifiably known as the “Crossroads of North Jersey”. It boasts a convenience of highways that includes Interstate 80, Interstate 280, Route 46, Route 10, Route 202, and Route 53. Depending on your plans, in under an hour you could drive to New York City, visit the mountains, or relax at the Jersey Shore.

Parsippany was incorporated in 1928, but evidence (such as cave art found in the Parsippany highlands) indicates inhabitation in this area as far back as 6,000 years ago. Due to the climate warming, the melting of the nearby Wisconsin Glacier (circa 21,000 – 13,000 BC) created massive amounts of water resulting in new rivers, streams & lakes. One particular lake, Lake Passaic, became the largest lake in NJ – covering half of Parsippany – extending from the Ramapo Fault in western Parsippany to just about where Paterson, NJ is today.

Over time, Lake Passaic shrank and was replaced with many smaller lakes, swamps, forests and meadows. Parsippany became host to a diverse assortment of plants and animals which attracted a Native American sub-tribe known as the Lenne Lenape. They dwelled along what is now the Rockaway and Whippany Rivers, and in the highlands, fishing and hunting the plentiful local game. The name Parsippany is derived from the Lenne Lenape word “parsipanong”, meaning “where the waters flow together”.

Parsippany is rich in history, with many structures dating back as far as the 1700’s, including the Littleton School House (1790), the Condit house (1870) and the Isaac Beach House (1783). One of Parsippany’s most beautiful neighborhoods is the historic Mount Tabor area, founded in 1869 as a Methodist camp. Mount Tabor is known for its abundance of traditional Victorian homes, and is on the National Register of Historic Places. During the 1960’s post-war building boom Parsipanny’s population increased dramatically, and you’ll find many Cape-Cods, Ranches, and Split-Levels built during this time. More recently named subsections of Parsippany include: Greystone Park, Lake Hiawatha, Lake Intervale, Lake Parsippany, Mount Tabor, Parsippany, Powder Mill, Rainbow Lakes, Rockaway Neck, Tabor and Troy Hills.

Bordering Parsippany-Troy Hills are the municipalities of Boonton, Denville Township, East Hanover Township, Hanover Township, Montville, Morris Plains, Morris Township, Mountain Lakes & Randolph.

Parsippany-Troy Hills Fun Facts:

  • Tiffany & Co. of Parsippany crafted the Vince Lombardi Trophies for every
